Inside Civil 3D there’s a multitude of System Variables that can be manipulated for the user to utilize Civil 3D in a manner that suits the needs of that user at the time. This quick little blog is about the GEOLATLONGFORMAT system variable as shown typed in the Civil 3D command line below.

GEOLATLONGFORMAT can be set to either <0>, also the default value, or <1>. This changes the Coordinates shown in the status bar from Lat/Long coordinates using 4 decimals, to Lat/Long using Degrees Minutes Seconds as shown below:

A few mentions:

  • in order to get to Lat/Long with the four decimals (as shown below) simply click on the 3 lined icon in the lower right corner of the screen on the Status Bar to make sure Coordinates is toggled on, then right click on the coordinates in the Status Bar to change the coordinates from the drawings X,Y coordinates, to Lat/Long coordinates using 4 decimals by selecting Geolocation.
  • in order to show the Lat/Long, the drawing must have a Geolocation

Check out this video to learn step by step on how to view coordinates in Civil 3D drawings as Latitude Longitude in Degrees Minutes Seconds:
